How to install Minecraft Mods

The first thing you wanna do is to make sure you have downloaded all files necessary for the mod to work. Normally a mod consists of .class files. You will also need to have a program installed called WinRAR or WinZIP.

Go to your minecraft folder:
Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Application Data\.minecraft
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft ( “~” = username)
Linux: ~/.minecraft/

Note: If you can not find a .minecraft folder then you have to go to your control panel and click Appearance and Personalization. Next click Show hidden files and folders. And lastly, select radio labeled button Show hidden files, folders, and drives and click OK.

Go to folder called bin. Copy a file called minecraft.jar and paste it into the same folder we are in (bin). That’s for backup. Also, if you see a folder named Meta-INF, remove it as otherwise your game will crash once you have finished installing your mods. It’s 100 % safe to do so.

Right-click minecraft.jar (not the copied version) and choose Open with -> WinRAR archiver.

Now WinRAR (or whatever program you are using) should have opened a window looking something like the one shown below.

Drag and drop your .class (modification files) to the WinRAR window and click OK.

Congratulations! Now you are all set and your Minecraft mods have been installed.
